What's New - 2025 January

What’s new – January 2025

Table of Contents

Although the holiday season has ended, engaging visitors and converting them into leads should remain a priority throughout the year. We understand that your main focus is on launching new products and growing your business—not on spending hours fine-tuning popup campaigns.

So, this release focuses on saving you time and streamlining your efforts. Here’s what’s new:

Cross-domain order tracking

Cross-domain tracking enables you to link and report orders across different domains using specific URL parameters. This feature ensures accurate order tracking and campaign performance measurement, even if your ecommerce store and campaigns are hosted on a subdomain while the checkout takes place on your main Shopify-based domain.

Headless commerce support

Support headless commerce solutions

We also support headless commerce solutions! This means that with a completely unique storefront combined with a Shopify-based backend and checkout system, you can track orders and measure the success of your campaigns seamlessly.

Templates are available in 6 languages

If you have a non-English website, you can use pre-made templates that are already translated for you. All templates are available in English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Hungarian, making campaign creation easier and more accessible.

Weekly report emails

It’s easy to overlook campaign performance, but regular insights are essential for identifying areas that need improvement and maximizing revenue. To assist you, we send weekly performance summaries directly to your inbox every Monday. These summaries include:

  • Key metrics: Last week’s impressions and conversions.
  • Top 5 campaign breakdown: Impressions, conversions, and conversion rates.
  • Lead details: Organized by email and phone number.
  • Week-over-week changes: Quick comparisons to spot trends.

Ensure your email address is up-to-date in your OptiMonk account settings to receive these insights.

Change email address →

If you prefer not to receive these emails, you can manage your preferences here.

💡Tip: Invite teammates to your account so they can stay informed about these reports.

New Announcement sidemessage templates

We have updated our Announcement templates to help you share news without disrupting visitors. Whether it’s a new product, collection, or event, these templates make it easy to communicate your message effectively.

Easier SMS list building in templates

We’ve introduced an SMS list-building option to many of our templates, making collecting phone numbers much easier. You can now quickly build email and SMS lists without manually adding extra pages in the following use cases:

When setting up your campaign, you can choose to build either your email list or both your email and SMS lists.

OptiMonk popups are officially now #1 in speed

A recent GTMetrix speed test named OptiMonk the fastest popup provider, outperforming Klaviyo and VWO in both desktop and mobile performance. Faster popups result in better user experiences and eliminate bounce rates caused by slow loading.

Bi-weekly live OptiMonk training

Join our bi-weekly sessions every other Wednesday. Emil, our Customer Success Manager, will guide you through setting up campaigns from scratch and demonstrate how to create beautiful, high-performing campaigns in just 10 minutes.

Top 5 OptiMonk Features From 2024

Table of Contents

2024 has been an exciting year at OptiMonk. We’ve been heads-down, working on making our tools faster, smarter, and easier to use.

The result? A lineup of brand-new features designed to help you convert more visitors, engage your audience, and drive growth like never before.

Here are our top five feature releases from this year—each crafted with your business in mind.

Let’s dive in!

1. Exit reminder popups

Exit popups are your final chance to engage visitors and encourage them to complete their checkout.

In 2025, it’s time to move beyond generic, impersonal messages. Forget the hard sell—your popup needs to be smart, relevant, and truly clickable.

What works? Offering something visitors genuinely care about: a reminder of the product already waiting in their cart.

Exit reminder popups act as a digital safety net for those at risk of abandoning their purchase. As a visitor prepares to leave without completing checkout, this popup serves as a subtle yet effective nudge, showcasing the items they were just about to buy.

Exit reminder popups

Why they work

  • Relevance: Reminding visitors of the items they already liked increases the chances they’ll come back.
  • Social proof: Adding customer reviews or ratings directly in the popup builds trust.
  • Mobile-friendly design: These popups look clean and work flawlessly on any device, ensuring seamless engagement.

*Please note that the Exit reminder recommendation logic only works for Shopify stores.

Real-life success

Here are some real-world examples of how Shopify stores have successfully used the exit reminder popup:

Log Furniture: A smart cart reminder that keeps customers engaged.

Malin & Mizen: An eye-catching popup that encourages visitors to complete their purchase.

Glo Foreva: A highly effective cart reminder that drives conversions effortlessly.

2. Renewed campaign analytics

We’ve revamped our analytics dashboard for clearer conversion metrics and domain-level stats, allowing quick access to visitor counts, orders, and conversion rates across all conversion goals.

Renewed campaign analytics

In ecommerce marketing, understanding the performance of your CRO campaigns isn’t optional—it’s essential.

Yet, tracking can often feel overwhelming, with different tools presenting conflicting data and metrics scattered across platforms.

That’s where OptiMonk steps in, offering a clearer, simpler analytics experience.

Now available for all ecommerce stores, Campaign Analytics isn’t limited to Shopify anymore.

If you’re using Google Analytics 4, you can now access powerful insights into your campaigns with key ecommerce KPIs, like order data, to fuel growth.

Key features of the new analytics

  1. Domain-level insights:
Right at the top of the dashboard, you’ll find an overview of your site’s performance, including visitor counts, orders, and conversion rates. This aggregated data lets you compare campaigns to your site’s overall performance, making it easier to see the real impact of your efforts.
Plus, a dropdown menu lets you switch between domains for tailored insights.
  1. Customizable metrics for better tracking:
Every campaign has unique goals, and OptiMonk makes it easy to track what matters most.

Whether you’re looking at:

  • Assisted revenue, which tracks income directly attributed to conversions from a specific campaign.
  • Total revenue encompassing all income influenced by the campaign, including purchases from visitors exposed to it.
  • For even more precision, you can now set up Custom Conversion Events, allowing you to measure success based on any specific action or event.
Renewed campaign analytics
  1. Enhanced GA4 order tracking:

OptiMonk’s analytics now tracks all order events labeled as ‘purchase’ in GA4, even if the data is sent in non-standard formats. This means you’ll get more accurate revenue data and deeper insights into campaign performance.

Why this matters

With these updates, you’ll spend less time decoding complex reports and more time making data-driven decisions to grow your business.

Explore the full details of the new analytics features in our support guide.

3. Multilingual templates

To make campaign creation easier and more accessible, we’ve expanded OptiMonk’s template library to include five new languages: German, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Hungarian

If you’re targeting these markets, simply adjust the Template Selector to your desired language, and you’ll gain access to all universal, seasonal, and custom templates in that language.

Don’t see your language yet?

No worries! We’re actively working on adding more languages to the platform. Have a specific language in mind? Let us know—we’d love to hear your feedback!

How to set it up

Follow this step-by-step guide to customize your templates and start engaging international audiences effortlessly.

Template translation

Pro tip

Localized templates can make your campaigns feel more personal and relatable, which can significantly improve engagement and conversions.

Whether you’re preparing for a holiday promotion or launching in a new market, these multilingual templates are here to help.

4. Browsing reminder popups

Browsing reminder popups are designed to re-engage visitors who are exploring your site but haven’t taken the next step. These popups subtly remind users of the products or categories they viewed, keeping your brand top of mind and nudging them toward action.

When to use it?

  • For returning visitors: The easiest way to re-engage them.
  • Product page explorers: Ideal for visitors browsing high-value items but not adding them to their cart.
  • Long-consideration purchases: For products that typically require more thought, browsing reminders can encourage visitors to revisit and reconsider.

Real-life example

Let’s see Browsing Reminder in action.

ParfumeLab, a luxury fragrance retailer, saw impressive results with their browsing reminder campaign.

Highlighting recently viewed products led to 19.22% of returning visitors making a purchase, boosting both engagement and conversions.

PerfumeLab browsing reminder

How to set it up

  1. Head to the Browsing Reminder templates.
  2. Customize the popup design to match your brand’s style.
  3. Set the trigger rules to display the popup after a visitor views a certain number of pages or spends a specific amount of time on your site.
  4. Preview and publish the campaign!

Why it’s effective

By showing visitors a tailored reminder of what caught their interest, browsing popups provide a gentle nudge to continue their shopping journey, increasing the likelihood of conversion.

5. OptiMonk is now #1 in speed

What’s new – September 2024

Table of Contents

The busy season is just around the corner for e-commerce marketers. That means it’s time to gear up and get ready. Now’s the perfect time to grow those email and SMS lists, so when your best holiday offers drop, you’ll have as many eyes on them as possible.

In this release, we’ve made campaign setup smoother, enhanced email collection tools, and added fresh seasonal templates to help you prepare for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and beyond.

Target your home page, collection, product pages, or any page easily

We’ve revamped our URL targeting rules to make campaign setup faster, easier, and more precise. Home page targeting got easier, so no UTM parameters can interfere with your targeting. Also, you can now use regular expressions to target multiple UTM parameters simultaneously.

Target specific products in the cart by name

Cart rules ensure that only visitors with specific cart content will see your campaign. This can include the total cart value, the number of items, and now even specific products added to the cart, such as “Pedigree Biscrok – Bone-Shaped, Multi-Mix Biscuits Dog Treats.”

Launch global campaigns with Timezone Campaign Schedule

OptiMonk’s Campaign schedule allows you to schedule your popups and offers by any timezone. Launch or conclude campaigns precisely at a given time – for example at midnight – local time, for each visitor.

Personalize product recommendations with Shopify's own algorithm

Boost sales with intelligent product recommendations! Shopify’s recommender makes it easy to show the right products at the right time, and it’s now available in OptiMonk for all your campaigns.

Receive email alerts if your campaigns stop showing

Stay informed with email alerts that notify you if your campaigns stop showing due to issues like running out of discount codes, out-of-stock products, or outdated countdown timers. Ensure your email is up to date and invite team members to receive alerts as well.

email alerts

Add your logo to your campaigns with a single click

Add your logo directly to your Theme settings, and OptiMonk will automatically display it on all your popup pages.

Reduce misspelled email addresses with OptiMonk's Spellchecker

Tired of bounce-backs from typos like jane@gamil.com? Our spellchecker now flags common domain errors (Gmail, Yahoo, 39+ popular domains, and 66+ modern TLDs frequently updated) during sign-ups and suggests corrections.

Extended GA4 order tracking

OptiMonk’s Campaign Analytics can now track all order events labeled ‘purchase’ in GA4, not just those in the default format. This means we can capture orders even if the purchase details (like value and revenue) are sent to GA4 in a different format. With this improvement, even more users can access precise revenue data and gain deeper insights into their campaign performance.

New & revamped Black Friday & Cyber Monday templates

Feeling the holiday rush already? We’ve revamped our best Black Friday and Cyber Monday popups and added new templates covering more use cases to help you boost sales, grow your email list, collect first-party data and promote offers this season.

New template family with background images

Got an image that perfectly captures your brand story? Check out our new ‘Groundy’ template family. It’s perfect for showing off stunning backgrounds, and you can use it for all your campaigns—over 20+ use cases.

New use case: Win a gift

Grow your email list without discounts! Try our new “Win a Gift” popup tactic—perfect for driving quality leads with product giveaways while promoting your top products.

New use case: Exit reminder

Remind customers of what they’re leaving behind! OptiMonk’s new recommendation logic lets you display cart items in any campaign, helping you recover missed sales. Available for Shopify stores only.

Our new favorite popup formula turned fullscreen

Our top-performing Smart Discount Popup is now fullscreen for even more impact. Fullscreen pop-ups often outperform standard overlays, so we’ve upgraded all templates to this stunning format.

The post 12 Things You Might Not Know You Can Do with OptiMonk appeared first on OptiMonk - Popups, supercharged..

A common question we hear from users is, “What makes OptiMonk 3.0 better than a simple popup tool?”

In this article, we’ll answer that question by describing the specific capabilities that OptiMonk puts at store owners’ fingertips. Features like our advanced targeting system, embedded content, and other personalization options make OptiMonk 3.0 an advanced ecommerce personalization platform.

Let’s look at OptiMonk’s vast array of industry-leading use cases!

1. Collect more data from new visitors and boost conversions

Sites with huge inventories of products can use a Conversational Popup to help visitors find what they’re looking for more quickly and easily. This avoids the Paradox of Choice,” which happens when visitors have too many options to choose from.

It works like this: when a visitor lands on your site, they might start feeling overwhelmed by the number of products and options. Just then, a welcome popup appears and asks visitors what types of products they’re interested in.

Phew! They’re relieved.

Their choice takes them to a second page of the same popup, which shows product recommendations based on their selection. They can now choose between the 3 most popular products in that category.

And you can also give them the option to get a discount in exchange for joining your email list.

How to set it up:

Pick a template from our Template Library and customize it to match the look and feel of your website. You can also change the question’s wording and the answer options according to your needs.

Next, you’ll need to choose the products that get recommended based on each answer. That’ll require you to duplicate the second and the third page of the popup based on the number of possible answers.

For example: if you’re offering 3 potential answers to your question, then you’ll need to create 3 copies of the second and the third page.

For a more detailed set-up guide, click here.

2. Personalize your campaigns based on country

If your store has a considerable amount of international traffic, you should personalize your welcome message based on the visitor’s country to make them even more powerful.

This strategy could increase your conversion rate by at least 20%.

Personalize your campaigns based on country

How to set it up:

It’s easy! Use our Smart Tags feature and insert the [[attribute:_country_en]] property wherever you want the name of the country to appear:

Personalization with smart tags

3. Display personalized offers based on traffic source

Source-based targeting allows you to communicate different messages to visitors arriving from different channels. Since lots of incoming traffic comes from paid ads, you don’t want to waste those expensive leads.

With OptiMonk, you can create messages that are tailored to traffic coming from different sources. For example, you might want to use a personalized message for visitors coming from Facebook:

And visitors coming from Instagram:

If you personalize your opt-in message and display the traffic source, you can increase the conversion rate of your campaign by 50%.

How to set it up:

Under the “Who to Show” menu, you’ll need to click on the “Add new condition” button and choose “Source.” There, you can use the presets that cover common traffic sources or provide your own unique URLs to include or exclude.

Source-based targeting

4. Raise awareness about your best-selling products

Another approach to combating the Paradox of Choice is to use popups that display your best-selling products.

You can display messages based on the category your visitor is currently browsing. So instead of having to choose between, say, seven slightly-different trampolines, they can just go with the one that most people are buying.

You can also call them “Popular Products,” “Customer Favorites,” or “Best Sellers.” This is a sure-fire way to entice consumers who always want to get their hands on the best, most popular products.

Here are a few examples of how you can help your visitors find what they need:

How to set it up:

First off, choose one of the Product Recommender Popup templates and personalize it with relevant, compelling copy and an enticing CTA.

Next, you’ll have to choose the settings for your product recommendation element from three options:

  • Manual: You choose which products are recommended.
  • Recently viewed: Items whose product pages visitors recently viewed appear as recommendations.
  • Most popular: The most popular items are recommended, but you have three further options here. You can display the most popular items of (1) the whole store, (2) a specific category you choose, or (3) the specific category that your customer is browsing.
How to set up product recommendation with OptiMonk

You should choose the option that makes the most sense for you: are you trying to move products from a particular category or are you more interested in helping people find the best options in the category they’re currently looking at? The answer to that question (and many related ones) depends on the specifics of your ecommerce store.

5. Increase average order value with free shipping bars

As an ecommerce site owner, you’re probably already watching your average order value (AOV) closely and looking for ways to maximize it. Our Free Shipping Bars are a great way to get people to make more (and bigger) purchases.

Showing visitors your store’s free shipping threshold is one of the easiest ways to boost your AOV. Customers love nothing more than free shipping, and they’ll often look for more items to buy just to reach the amount needed to qualify for it.

Sticky bars are the best way to remind your customers about your free shipping threshold since they’re constantly on the screen but don’t interfere with the flow of shopping.

Here’s an example of a Free Shipping Bar:

How to set it up:

You have two options. You could set up a simple Free Shipping Bar like the one above to display your free shipping threshold. Just choose a template and put in your shipping info.

Or you can create a Dynamic Free Shipping Bar, which updates to show exactly how much more someone needs to spend to get free shipping.

For example, if your threshold is $75 for free shipping, a customer with items worth $50 in their cart will see a message that reads something like “Only $25 away from free shipping,” like in the example below.

A dynamic free shipping bar from BLK & Bold

To set up a Dynamic Free Shipping Bar, choose one of these templates and use the placeholder text from the image below:

How to set up a Dynamic Free Shipping Bar

Then replace the “X” with the value of your free shipping threshold (so that the sticky bar knows how much to count down from).

6. Use automatically-generated coupon codes

OptiMonk can automatically create unique coupon codes for each customer. This makes tracking the successes and failures of your campaigns easier, since you’ll know whether or not each customer has used their unique code.

Our data shows that unique, randomized coupon codes—something like “GH66Y8”—convert much better than generic codes like “10OFF.”

This is because randomized discount codes seem more temporary and easier to lose than a generic code, adding a sense of urgency to the coupon code itself. In contrast, it seems like you’ll still be able to use a code like “10OFF” next week or month.

With this option, you can create different sets of coupon codes for different campaigns. When a visitor requests a code, it will be 100% unique, so no one else will ever see the same code.

The best thing? All of this is contained in an element that’s easy to add to your popups in our drag & drop editor.

Here’s what it would look like in action:

How to set it up:

Once you’ve selected the template you want to use, drag the coupon element onto your popup. Choose the “Automatically generated codes” option (only available for Shopify stores) to generate and manage your discount codes in OptiMonk. We’ll automatically add them to your Shopify store.

This will generate a unique coupon code for every visitor that interacts with your campaign.

Automatically generated codes

7. Remind your visitors to use their coupon codes

Price-sensitive visitors are not always easy to convince, but coupon codes go a long way toward fighting their resistance.

However, a problem emerges when visitors have a code (whether for a seasonal sale or from signing up for an email list), but forget about it while browsing your site!

Thankfully, it’s an easy problem to solve. You can use an ever-present sticky bar to remind them about their discount.

By using follow-up sticky bars to remind your users about their coupon codes, you can increase the coupon redemption rate by 50%.

First comes the popup with the offer of a discount for subscribing to the email list.

Link your campaigns

Then, right after they subscribe, a sticky bar like the one below will stay at the top of the site.

Link your campaigns

How to set it up:

Get started with one of these templates:

If you have a Shopify store, simply choose “Reminder” from the dropdown menu. This way, the sticky bar will display the coupon code that the visitor received previously.

If you don’t have a Shopify store, simply choose “Fixed code” and type in the coupon code that you want to remind visitors to use:

Remind your visitors to use their coupon codes

Then, connect your sticky bar with the campaign where the coupon code was first distributed.

You can easily do this with campaign linking. In the “Who to Show” settings, choose the “Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns” option, and then choose the coupon code campaign and the condition “filled”.

Remind your visitors to use their coupon codes

8. Promote post-purchase offers

Post-purchase offers help you transform one-time buyers into repeat customers.

Returning customers are essential for an ecommerce store’s bottom line, as they spend roughly 3x more than one-time buyers. It’s also much cheaper to successfully (re)market to existing customers compared to the expense of constantly finding new customers.

The moment after a purchase is the perfect opportunity to offer customers a discount on their next one. They’re in a good emotional state to receive a coupon code, deliver feedback, or sign up for your email list.

Here’s how that could look like:

How to set it up:

You can start by using one of our Repeat Purchase Discount Survey templates. Make sure to set it up so that it only gets triggered on your post-purchase thank you page.

9. Ask your visitors why they’re leaving

98% of visitors abandon ecommerce sites without buying anything and without subscribing to a list. That’s…almost everyone.

With an exit-intent popup, you can ask people why they’re leaving just before they do.

Use an Exit Feedback Survey and set a few answers which are common among visitors on their way out. This will give you invaluable information about how to improve your site.

Here’s an example:

How to set it up:

This one is easy: simply choose an Exit Feedback Survey template and write in your own questions and answers.

Finally, make sure to set up an exit-intent trigger for those who are not leaving your site via the thank you page.

10. Test different value propositions on product pages

If your product pages are too feature focused, you might want to consider building in some value propositions (and shifting the focus to benefits) in order to connect with your visitors more successfully.

Test different value propositions on product pages

By testing different value propositions, the conversion rate of your product pages can increase by 50%.

How to set it up:

Choose an embedded message and finetune it to your style:

Then duplicate your campaign and modify your challenger variant.

In your control variant, you can rewrite the headline or sub-headline and you can change the images, color of the CTA, etc. Always make sure to change just one element in each variant—this way you’ll know for sure which element change caused the increase in your conversion rate.

And finally, activate your control variant!

Test different value propositions on product pages

11. Ask for custom data for more personalized email campaigns

The more personalized you can make your messaging, the more effective it will be. This is true for both popups and email marketing.

By asking for personal information from your customers, like their name, gender, or what types of products they’re interested in, you can segment your audience more effectively.

You can ask for this custom data in your email signup popup. This is a great place to ask for extra info, because you’ll be able to start a more personalized relationship from the very first newsletter you send them.

Here’s just one example of the custom data you could ask for:

How to set it up:

To set this up, just drag a “Radio Button” element on the popup and enter the options based on how you want to differentiate your customers. This can be very straightforward, like asking their gender, or more subtle, like whether they prefer dogs or cats.

Once you’ve done that, set your targeting and segmentation as usual.

12. Gamify your popups

Gamification makes the shopping experience more fun, increasing the likelihood your popups will convert and grow your lists.

Less-engaged visitors who wouldn’t bother subscribing for a 10% discount will spin the wheel just to see what happens…and for a chance to win big.

Since there’s an element of immediate gratification to whatever level of discount someone ends up winning, they are more likely to use that discount immediately.

Here’s an example of a gamified popup:

How to set it up:

For gamification, you can select one of the Spin-to-Win popup templates.

After customizing it to your needs, click on the Wheel in the Drag and Drop editor to set up which promotions and coupon codes you’ll make available. You can also adjust the odds of each outcome, maximizing your profitability.

The post 12 Most Notable OptiMonk Features in 2022 appeared first on OptiMonk - Popups, supercharged..

]]>

2022 has been an exciting year here at OptiMonk. We’ve been working around the clock on our biggest project: transforming OptiMonk from a comprehensive popup tool into a powerful website personalization platform. In October, all that hard work finally paid off with the launch of OptiMonk 3.0.

Today we’re giving you a roundup of the 12 most notable new features released in 2022. Scan the list and make sure you didn’t miss any!

Personalization

Since customer data is the key to personalization, we’ve been laser-focused on two aspects of our data capabilities:

  • Collecting accurate, up-to-the-minute customer data and making it easier to access and understand.
  • Leveraging that data to help you create personalized campaigns and meaningful shopping experiences.

Let’s go over some of the features we’ve developed to get the most out of customer data:

1. Visitor Properties

With OptiMonk, you’ve always been able to collect zero-party customer data using forms and survey elements that contained input fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, and so on.

But now, we’ve extended the list of other Dynamic and Static First-Party Visitor Properties we collect, bringing you more information about your customers. And best of all, these properties are identified automatically by OptiMonk from your visitors’ browsers, so you can personalize their experiences while safeguarding their privacy.

Take a look at the full list of customer data OptiMonk now collects:

Visitor Properties collected by OptiMonk automatically

In addition to all that data, you can also use Custom Visitor Properties to collect and utilize the data you collect from other sources. Just define the custom variables you want to use and their value with a JavaScript code, and then insert the code on your site.

For more information on Custom Visitor Properties, read our support article here

Visitor Properties can be used for:

  • Targeting conditions: defining which groups of visitors will receive a message.
  • Personalization with Smart Tags: tailoring your messages for individuals.

Available: for all OptiMonk users.

2. Smart Tags

You’ve probably used “Hi [First_name] “ in emails before, but what about your website?

Based on all the data we now collect automatically, we’ve taken dynamic text replacement to a whole new level. Since we made this feature a whole lot smarter, we gave it a more fitting name: Smart Tags.

Using Smart Tags, you can create one-to-one personalized messages that give your visitors the impression that you’re talking to them directly.

The Smart Tag system uses placeholder texts like [[type:variable|default value]] that you insert while creating your messages. These placeholders will automatically update based on visitor properties.

It seems like magic when you’re editing a template and placing these funny-looking placeholders, and then a highly relevant experience comes out on the other side! There’s no coding required… just insert the placeholders and you’re all set.

For example, you could use the following placeholder texts to personalize your messages based on what’s in a user’s cart:

  • Total value of cart: [[cart:total]]
  • Number of items in cart: [[cart:number_of_items]]
  • Number of types of items in cart: [[cart:number_of_item_kinds]]

You can also Smart Tags to personalize messages based on a user’s first name, like in the example below:

This will create a campaign that looks different to each user who sees it:

OptiMonk’s Smart Tag Feature

Available: for all OptiMonk users.

Learn more about Smart Tags »

Coming soon: Smart Tags will be even easier to use soon! We’re adding an option to our editor that will allow you to select the visitor property you want to include at the click of a button.

3. Dynamic Product and Category Names

We also introduced new use cases for Smart Tags, like the ability to use Dynamic Category Names and Product Names.

This means that you can offer personalized promotions to different groups of visitors who are interested in different products and categories, all with a single campaign.

For example, if a user is browsing through your earrings category page, you can show them an exit-intent popup promoting a 20% discount on earrings. However, a user on your bracelet category page would see a 20% discount on bracelets (even though it’s the same campaign).

This is what it looks like in action:

OptiMonk’s Dynamic Product and Category Names

Available: for Shopify users.

4. Dynamic Free Shipping Bar

Dynamic Free Shipping Bars are another new use case for Smart Tags, helping you increase your average cart value with compelling free shipping offers.

As you probably know, free shipping is a powerful motivator, and a Dynamic Free Shipping Bar makes it easy to provide that motivation.

Here’s how it works: as soon as a user adds something to their cart, the free shipping bar appears and automatically shows them exactly how much more they need to spend to get free shipping.

For instance, if the free shipping threshold is $75 and the item added to the cart has a value of $55, the message would read something like “$20 left to get free shipping!”

Once they hit the threshold, the Dynamic Free Shipping Bar congratulates them and urges them to complete their purchase.

5. Embedded Content

Creating a truly personalized shopping experience requires tailoring your entire website for each visitor. By using Embedded Content, you can create a more deeply personalized customer experience.

Dynamically adjusting your embedded content solves a problem that many marketers have spent a lot of time worrying about: too many popup campaigns compromising the user experience.

However, actually accomplishing dynamically embedded content has always presented a significant technical challenge, limiting how much personalization ecommerce stores could deliver to their customers. Until now…

OptiMonk 3.0 allows you to personalize entire website sections without writing a single line of code.

With our Embedded Content feature, you can place personalized offers, surveys, and other messages directly into the native content of your website—without adding any extra noise. This creates a unique experience for each customer with embedded campaigns that don’t feel obtrusive.

You can embed any of this personalized content onto your site using easy Point & Click Placement.

Here’s an example of what embedded content created with OptiMonk 3.0 can look like:

OptiMonk’s Embedded Content Feature

There are lots of ways you can use embedded personalized content on your website. For example, you could:

  • Embed product recommendation sections directly into your product and category pages to deliver powerful upselling and cross-selling offers.
  • Embed surveys into your post-purchase thank you page to learn more about your customers and improve your site.
  • Promote personalized special offers on your landing pages and use discount codes to transform cold leads into hot ones.

Integrations

OptiMonk takes pride in offering a wide range of integrations, but now the setup process is much smoother. Our most popular integrations (like Shopify, Klaviyo, and Mailchimp) can be set up in minutes following a simple, foolproof process.

Here are two of the unique integration features we offer with Shopify and Klaviyo:

6. Shopify Dynamic Customer Tags

OptiMonk users who have Shopify stores can now forward survey results as Customer Tags

After your users fill out a survey or engage with a conversational popup, you can tag them based on their answers and later use that tag in Shopify for segmentation or trigger automations.

Shopify Dynamic Customer Tags

For example, imagine an online wine store running a conversational popup that’s designed to find out what types of wine a potential customer prefers. If someone says that they prefer French wine to Argentinian, you can assign them a specific tag to record that information.

Available: for Shopify users.

7. Klaviyo Lists & Segment Targeting

Klaviyo’s powerful lists and segments allow you to send precisely targeted and personalized emails to your subscribers.

Why not use all the data you have in Klaviyo across your entire website, rather than locking it away in your Klaviyo account?

Klaviyo Lists & Segment Targeting

Using Klaviyo Lists & Segments in targeting, you can display a message to a specific segment or prevent a specific segment from seeing an offer. Here are some ideas for how you can use segmentation to personalize your popups or embedded campaigns:

  • Personalize offers for repeat buyers by offering them discounts on the types of products they’ve purchased before
  • Use targeted discounts to reactivate churned or at-risk customers
  • Personalize your messages based on where the visitor is located, displaying accurate currency and shipping information
  • Encourage email subscribers to sign up for SMS marketing messages

Available: for all OptiMonk users with the Klaviyo integration.

Targeting

OptiMonk 3.0 gives you all the options you need to create messages that are precisely targeted towards certain segments of customers.

8. Segments

The new OptiMonk Segments feature makes managing multiple visitor segments easy for both beginners and advanced users.

Once you define a group of visitors, you can add it to your saved segments and use it in future campaigns. No more defining your audiences over and over again!

And if you’re having trouble figuring out what your segments should be, you can use our Audience Recommendations to generate targeting rules that match the use case you’re pursuing.

OptiMonk’s Segments Feature

Available: for all OptiMonk users.

Discounts

We’ve also been working to help you take your discount game to the next level! In addition to improving the way we handle fixed discount codes and adding a Discount Code Auto Redeem option, we’ve introduced two huge features related to discount codes:

9. Discount Code Reminder

OptiMonk’s new Discount Code Reminder can help you save conversions that you would have otherwise lost.

Reminding visitors about an active coupon code they haven’t used might turn out to be that final incentive they need to make a purchase.

These campaigns appear as sticky bars, which means they won’t disrupt the shopping experience. Instead, they’ll keep the information at the top of your customer’s mind as they browse.

10. Create discount codes on the fly

Instead of going through the trouble of first creating discount codes in the Shopify interface and then transferring them over to OptiMonk, you can simply do it while you’re creating a new discount campaign.

automatically generated discount code

This works for both fixed discount codes (like 10OFF) and uniquely-generated codes (like 7UE45).

Available: for Shopify users.

Editor

OptiMonk’s drag-and-drop editor now has expanded functionality, allowing you to create embedded content, popups, and other campaign types with ease.

We made two important tweaks to our editor over the past year:

11. Themes

Having to design dozens of campaigns is often one of the biggest barriers to scaling personalized messaging efficiently.

Marketers and shop owners have to spend a lot of time and effort to create campaigns that flawlessly match a brand’s identity.

With Themes, you only need to design one campaign to match your brand, and then you’ll automatically have a template ready to use for all your possible campaign goals.

Available: for all OptiMonk users.

Learn more about Themes »

12. Easy editing

We made a few other changes as part of our refreshed editor in early 2022.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of these changes, which are designed to make creating campaigns easier for you.

  • Crop Background Images: Get more control over the look of your campaigns by cropping your background images.
  • Live Preview: See your progress as you go by checking out exactly what your popup will look like once it’s live.
  • Copy Style: Save time by easily copying formatting from one element to another, even across multi-page popups.

Available: for all OptiMonk users.

What to expect in 2023?

So there you have it—the top 12 changes we’ve made over the past year! It’s a lot to take in, right? Well, we’re not planning on slowing down anytime soon. Here are some of the features we’ll be rolling out in 2023:

  • Dynamic Content: Change headlines for different audiences to create a personalized experience.
  • Dynamic Images: Include a different image for different audiences within the same campaign.
  • Experiments: Run controlled campaign A/B tests to decide which tactics perform best on your website.
  • Experiences: Create personalized browsing experiences for your segments by changing your site’s content dynamically.
  • Smart Headline Generator: Create catchy, conversion-driving campaign headlines easily by simply dropping a few keywords into the generator.

We have some very exciting product updates for you in July. But first, let us share some delightful news from the life of OptiMonk. OptiMonk is proud to be the winner of notable awards this summer, as well:

  • Category Top Performer by SourceForge,
  • Leader in various different categories such as Lead Capture, Pop-Up Builder and High Performer in Retargeting by G2.

We would like to express our appreciation for all the kind reviews we receive on these sites. They – and of course, our users – mean the world to us. ❤

And now, let’s get down to product updates.

Do you ever feel like there is not enough time to do all the things you want? Most marketers feel this way at some point and search for ways to make things more efficient.

Especially, in the heat of the summer, you probably want to get campaign management done quickly so that you can enjoy your holidays with a peace of mind.

Knowing that, we wanted to make it as easy as possible for you to design and create multiple campaigns. Let’s get straight to what we came up with:

🖼 Resize and crop background images to your popups

  • Has the aspect ratio or the size of background image ever turned popup design into a hassle for you? If so, we hear you. This is why we came out with Background image cropping, a brand-new feature in Editor, allowing you to crop images to your popups and not the other way around. You can now upload any image and crop it to the right size to fit your popup perfectly.

↕ Resize blocks, columns and structural elements easily

Popups grow and get resized naturally as you place more (or fewer) elements on them. Adding or taking away elements, a.k.a. increasing or decreasing the height or width of your popup, also affects how your background image appears or where it gets cropped. However, that shouldn’t be an issue with Block resize, a sibling feature of Background image cropping.

With Block, column and frame resize, you can now adjust the dimensions of these structural elements. This way, you can make sure that all your popups become the best versions of themselves.

↔ Distance from the edge: Make sure your popup does not cover chat widgets or the nav bar

If you ever worried that teasers and side messages may cover key elements on a website such as chat widgets, worry no more!

With Distance from the edge, you have the option to determine precisely where your popup should appear relative to the browser window. This way you can make sure that your popups, side messages and even your teasers will not cover chat widgets, add to cart buttons or the navbar.

💡Review & share your popups before setting them live with Live Preview

Ever wondered how your popup will look over your actual live site? We took the guessing game out of the equation! Instant Live Preview allows you to:

check the appearance of your popup,
sharing your popup with teammates for approval,
test animations, integrations, input fields, teasers and all settings.

You can even share your popup plan with teammates before you set it live.

⏳ Save time with Copy Style while formatting elements

Do you keep re-using the same styling over and over again? We’ve got some good news! Copy Style takes the manual labor out of the equation.

Edit popups faster by using Copy Style to copy formatting from one element to another.

Copy Style works between different pages of popups such as main page, thank you page or teaser and even between different browser tabs.

🛡 User Experience Protector: Never worry about overwhelming your visitors with popups again

OptiMonk has assigned a guardian angel to your popup campaigns so that you don’t have to worry about scaring visitors away with too many popups. The User Experience Protector works like a shield, allowing only so many campaigns to be shown to a visitor that doesn’t affect the user experience negatively. Switch User Experience Protector on now and forget about annoying your visitors forever!

⚠ Customizable email validation error messages are here

If you use email validation in a campaign to rule out existing subscribers (for instance, to prevent them from receiving a discount code again), you may want to customize the message the ruled out customer receives to

  • use different wording
  • or display the message in a different language.

This way, you can make sure that you receive correct contact information and subscribers receive a discount code only once.

📹 [Video breakdowns] Winning tactics of top performer DTC brands

We are dying to know how what’s behind the $1B+ valuation of top-performer D2C brands. So we did some research.

We’ve spent long hours diving into the marketing strategy of the fastest growing brands to bring you the top takeaways. First, we give you a sneak peek into the winning tactics of Gymshark in only 5 minutes.

👀 Sneak peek into OptiMonk 3.0 - Coming in fall 2022

Today, creating a memorable onsite customer experience is more important than ever. Your visitors not only shop to get a product, it’s also an experience on a very personal level. This is why we dreamed big and reimagined what personalized onsite messaging should look like. And we’re going to show you this fall. Stay tuned.

In the heat of the summer, do yourself a favor and save some time with our newest features that make popup design quicker and easier. Make sure to let us know what you did during the time saved in comment section below. 👇

what's new klaviyo

Mindless email marketing without proper segmentation is passé. If you pay close attention to ROAS, you know that true power lies in segmentation.

When it comes to segmentation, Klaviyo is the best. During the last couple of months, we’ve been working on features that help you leverage that with simple, yet powerful on-site messages. Here’s what we came up with:

🎯 Deliver highly personalized messages to Klaviyo lists & segments

👤 Enrich Klaviyo profiles with conversational popups

💡 Set up a Klaviyo integration effortlessly

💾 Save all data before a visitor abandons a popup with Smart sync

📲 New email & SMS popup formula by the #1 Klaviyo expert

❓ OptiMonk vs. Klaviyo – Why you need both

🎯 Deliver highly personalized on-site messages to Klaviyo lists & segments

Leverage Klaviyo’s powerful lists and segments by targeting personalized on-site popups at them. With OptiMonk’s new Klaviyo lists and segments targeting rule, you have endless options to create a truly unique customer experience.

klaviyo segment targeting

How to use your Klaviyo segments for on-site messaging? Here are some ideas for inspiration:

  • Provide personalized offers to returning visitors or repeat buyers
Target VIP Customers or Repeat Buyers with a Welcome back popup and display new arrivals in your store or remind them of what products they were browsing last time.
  • Reactivate churned or at-risk customers
If you’ve identified customers who seem to loose interest or stopped visiting your store frequently in a Klaviyo segment, you can peak their interest again with a limited-time discount popup.
  • Personalize based on visitor location
Let visitors in a specific area know about important updates such as opening a new popup store.
  • Ask email subscribers to sign up for SMS
Target a phone number list popup at subscribers who have already signed up to you email list since they’ll be more likely to give you the second piece of contact information.
  •

👤 Enrich your Klaviyo profiles with conversational popups

Supercharge your segmentation by enriching Klaviyo profiles directly from popups. Collect more data about visitors by asking helpful questions and guide browsing. The conversational popup is an interactive way to collect contact information and data about an individual customer’s preferences. Compared to traditional popups, they are much closer to the natural flow of communication. They’re like a short conversation between a customer and a shop assistant.

Conversational popups not only contribute to creating memorable customer experiences, but also result in 3-4x more conversions and 1.5-2x more opt-ins.

Data from conversational popups is sent directly to your Klaviyo profiles so that you can personalize your email and SMS flows even further.

💡 Forgetting to add the right Klaviyo integration to your campaigns is officially impossible

Even if you use OptiMonk popups on multiple domains, you don’t have to worry anymore about sending the right data to the right place. Our refreshed clear-cut integration is vigilant so that you can relax and focus on what’s more important: campaign design and targeting.

OptiMonk now recognizes if you have Klaviyo on your site and leads you through a foolproof process to hook up the right segment with the right input fields in OptiMonk. We also remind you to add the integration to any new campaigns, if you’ve set it up before.

easy klaviyo integration

💾 Save all data before a visitor abandons a popup with Smart Sync

If you’ve used multi-step campaigns (for example, where you collect name on the first page and email on the second page) before, Smart Sync is here to make data collection even more efficient. If you’ve never tried them before, this new feature along with our new Trojan Horse formula (see below) is just another reason to try them.

Before Smart Sync, when visitors abandoned popups before completing all steps, information they provided up to the step got lost.

Smart Sync is here to detect when a visitor navigates away or quits the popup and sends all gathered information into your marketing automation software / integration of your choice.

P.S. Smart Sync is also available for non-Klaviyo users.

📲 Collect 40% more phone numbers with this brand-new popup formula: The Trojan Horse

This brand-new popup formula designed in cooperation with the #1 Klaviyo Expert exclusively for OptiMonk users is here to change the way you think about collecting phone numbers.

How do you feel when someone asks you several questions all at once – like email & phone number?

Probably, like you’re being interrogated.

This is exactly how your visitors feel when you ask them to give you all their info all in one page. However, if you do the same step by step, building trust along the way, they will be more likely to actually give you their information. 40% more likely to give you the second piece of information, to be exact.

email sms popup trojan horse

❓ OptiMonk vs. Klaviyo - Why you need both

optimonk vs klaviyo

If you’re new to OptiMonk, you’d be right to wonder why you need a more sophisticated popup tool beside Klaviyo’s solution. This is why we created a very straightforward comparison here.

☝ Stay up to date with the latest Klaviyo tactics

Our CEO & Founder, Csaba Zajdo, held a very informative webinar in June where he uncovered 12 Little-Known Ways for Klaviyo Users to Grow Leads, Sales & LTV with OptiMonk. Couldn’t make it then? Catch up on its content now:

If you’re keen on learning more, here’s another piece of great content to help you make the most out of OptiMonk & Klaviyo together:

How to Collect Data Through Popups to Personalize Your Klaviyo Email & SMS Flows

We hope our new features will empower you to make the most of your Klaviyo lists & segments. Give them a try and don’t hesitate to let us know what you think in the comment section.

new features february

Coupons are not dead. They just got a serious upgrade over the years with ecommerce. In fact, every second person making a purchase online does so due to a discount.

coupon gif

A well designed discount strategy can

  • increase average cart value,
  • improve conversion rates,
  • boost customer loyalty,
  • give momentum for new product launches,
  • move stock quickly,
  • enable precise attribution tracking,
  • and help you achieve a number of other business goals.

This is why we’re putting all our eggs into one – the coupon basket in February – and bringing several – including brand new – solutions for you to capitalize on the true power of discounts:

What’s more, we have something special as well if you’re sucker for trying out the newest tech to optimize campaigns percentile by percentile:

🎟 Create Fixed Discount Codes on the go for Shopify stores

Fixed discount codes, like “10OFF” are the most common way to offer discounts. If you want to create a popup featuring a fixed code, first, you’ll have to set up the code on the admin page of your store. However, if you run a Shopify store, you can save this step by creating it from OptiMonk.

What’s more, Shopify users creating a new discount code from OptiMonk will now be notified if the code already exists in Shopify.

As for already-existing discount codes, you’ll get a heads up that

  • you’re applying an already-existing code
  • with a certain discount and
  • expiration date.
new discount info fields

If your discount code is not valid any more, we’ll give you a heads up, as well.

As for discount codes not yet created in your Shopify store, you can

  • create the code from OptiMonk,
  • set up both the discount and
  • expiration date.

Please, note that the discount code auto redeem option is only available for Shopify stores.

Keep in mind:

  • Discounts can be a percentage or a fixed amount.
  • Expiration of discount codes can be a fixed date, like ‘Dec 20, 2022’ or – in case of unique codes – dynamic a.k.a. ‘valid for X days’ after you give it to the user.
  • If you enable “Auto redeem”, discounts will be applied automatically to the customer’s cart when they start the checkout process.

How to take the most advantage of Fixed Discount Codes?

Learn from the best. Read how ZooShoe, an online shoe retailer has collected 56,090 subscribers with a single mobile campaign.

For a detailed guide on how to set them up, check our support article.

And start experimenting with all the discount templates:

💪🚫Create dynamic Unique Discount Codes effortlessly

Unique discount codes such as “DR3v67b” have two major benefits:

  • they can only be redeemed once and
  • they can have a dynamic expiration date urging visitors to make a purchase.

OptiMonk allows users to upload such unique codes in bulk, which requires some manual labor for non-Shopify users.

However, we came out with a real pain killer for Shopify users: you can save this step by generating unique discount codes right from OptiMonk that will be added automatically to your Shopify account.

This way, you can create FOMO with powerful countdown templates and achieve 46% higher conversion rates according to our findings compared to popups without a limited time offer.

with or without countdown timer

Here’s how to create Unique Discount Codes in 5 simple step

  1. Create a new popup campaign on a Shopify domain.
  2. Edit or add a new discount component on the thank you page.
  3. Select “Unique codes” for your discount code type.
  4. Modify the discount code parameters – type, amount, prefix, expiration date- according to your campaign goals.
  5. Hit on save.
automatically generated discount code

When someone subscribes through your campaign, we generate a unique code with your settings for the subscriber.

Please note that automatically generated unique codes are not available for gamification templates.

😌 A true relief for forgetful shoppers: Discount Code Auto Redeem

Closing a popup, deleting an email or simply navigating away from a site with the right discount code can be so annoying. Especially, if you’re on the hunt for something you had eyes on for so long!

With Discount Code Auto Redeem, this can never happen again to your customer. If you enable this option, the promo code will be applied automatically to your visitors’ cart during checkout if they have been shown a code previously. This way, you can make sure that a forgotten promo code will never get in the way of making a sale again!

automatic discount

💡 A gentle reminder about unused coupons: Discount Code Reminders

Discount Code Reminder campaigns are a brand new way to remind visitors about an active coupon code they haven’t used, yet. This might just be the last incentive they need to make a purchase. Our reminder campaign templates come in the form of sticky bars that don’t disrupt the shopping experience but keep the information on hand when shoppers are ready to check out.

OptiMonk’s Discount Code Reminder Feature

How do Discount Reminder Campaigns work?

Discount code reminder campaigns start appearing automatically when a visitor has seen a discount code and hasn’t redeemed it yet.

Discount code reminder campaigns end if

  • the visitor redeems their discount,
  • deliberately closes the campaign or
  • the campaign expiration date ends.

Achieve 20% higher discount redemption rates with Discount Code Reminders

We tested reminder campaigns with Kiss My Keto, an American nutrition and diet supplement brand with the mission of making a healthy lifestyle easy, fun and satisfying. Visitors that received a discount code without using it right away were split into two groups:

  • half of them have been reminded of their discount code with a sticky bar,
  • the other half received no reminder.

And the results?

Kiss My Keto experienced a wow-worthy 20% increase in conversion with Discount Code Reminder Campaigns. To boost your discount redemption and conversion rates, we recommend combining your discount campaigns with reminder campaigns to make sure customers always keep your offers in mind.

How to set up sticky bar Discount Code Reminders for active campaigns

Note: A Discount Code Reminder Campaign can be created either linked to a standard popup campaign you already have running or as a separate campaign on its own.

  1. Select the campaign you want to create a reminder campaign for.
  2. Click on Add a reminder below the A/B test center.
  3. Choose a sticky bar template.
  4. Add the domain of your store that the campaign should appear on.
  5. Design the popup to match the style of your store.
  6. Choose reminder as a discount code type.

🔬Experimental features now available in OptiMonk Labs

We’re rolling out OptiMonk Labs – home to all our experimental features. Our research team works hard on new solutions in close collaboration with our users to finetune your popup campaigns bit by bit. This process is fed entirely by your feedback, so we wanted to make our features still under development available for everyone.

If you’re a sucker for the newest optimization solutions, make sure to explore this menu item! We’d love to hear your feedback.

P.S. These features might not have detailed documentation and user guides, but we’re happy to give you a hand, should you need help using them!

💥 Make distracted visitors return to your site with Flashing Browser Tab Notification

Visitors can get distracted by a number of things and end up abandoning their carts. Once they navigate to a different site, your options to make them return are – to put it nicely – limited. But far from non-existent!

flashing browser tab notification

Flashing Browser Tab Notifications are a subtle, but fun way to leave them a compelling message about why they should definitely come back.

What messages can make your tab-abandoner re-engage with your site?

Here are a few ideas for inspiration:

  • 👀 Special offer are waiting for you
  • We miss you ❤
  • Come back 🤗
  • Don’t forget about your coupons 🎟

Accessible from OptiMonk Labs, this feature allows you to set up a custom message to appear on browser tabs alternating with your site’s title.

With cookie targeting, you can make these messages even more personal. You can use any cookie stored by your site, even targeting cookies of your campaigns.

P.S. If you’re testing this feature out, you may want to use an incognito window to avoid caching issues. Also, make sure to wait for a sec because we added a one second delay.

A small change can go a long way

If you’re wondering whether such a small detail makes a difference, according to the test campaign ran on Christopher Cloos and Alinda stores for a month in January, a flashing browser tab can achieve a 9-11% increase in conversion rates

🧪 Comparing campaigns against each other is now possible with Store-level A/B testing

Best popup variants have long been selected with A/B testing, but what if you want to compare entire campaign settings against each other? You can now find out which campaign setting works best with Store-level A/B testing.

MyObvi, a health and beauty brand, wondered whether popup campaigns actually improve conversion rates during a seasonal campaign such as Black Friday when turnover usually peaks anyway. So we ran a global A/B test and showed a discount campaign to half of their visitors, while the other half did not receive any incentive from a popup to make a purchase.

Do popup campaigns actually work? – They sure do for MyObvi

… and drumroll please!

During the 6 days the test campaign ran, we found that visitors who were shown the OptiMonk Black Friday campaign converted 13,41% higher and spent 13,437 USD more.

Impressive, huh? Take the guessing game out of how effective your campaigns are with Store-level A/B tests!

How Store-level A/B testing works

To put it simply, you can split up your website’s traffic to a certain number of slices (up to 5) and target different campaigns to each segment. For example, if you have two campaigns to compare, you may want to split up your site traffic to two equal (50% – 50%) segments.

A cookie will be attributed to each segment with the name of your test case. Visitors will then be randomly assigned either of the two cookies.

cookie segmentation

To test campaigns against each other, you can use these cookies to segment your audience

A couple of hypotheses you might want to test

  • Do unique or fixed discount codes work better?
  • Percentage- or fix amount-based discounts perform better?
  • Is free shipping or a discount a more effective incentive?
  • Do automatic discounts improve conversion rates?
  • Or you simply may also wonder: Do OptiMonk campaigns really work?

If all that sounds like a piece of cake, we have something else in the bag for you. You can also run a custom script such as a Google Analytics code snippet sending information about visitors receiving one or the other cookie into GA for additional statistics between segments.

Customers love when their shopping experiences are personalized. —And this is a well-known truth among marketing and communication experts.

In fact, 60% of consumers say they’ll become repeat buyers after a personalized shopping experience with a retailer. And 71% of consumers say they expect companies to deliver personalized interactions.

That’s why innovative online stores keep improving ecommerce personalization and are committed to delivering more relevant touchpoints to their customers and prospects.

Here at OptiMonk, we continue to work hard and give you more options to personalize your communication by updating our products with:

Plus, we have some other new features to improve your efficiency, like:

Let’s dive into the updates on the most exciting improvements we’ve been developing:

🚚 Personalized, dynamic free shipping bar for Shopify Stores

How can you entice your shoppers to add just one more item to their cart before making a purchase?

The answer: Free Shipping Bar

A dynamic free shipping bar from BLK & Bold

Instead of getting into the psychology of it, I’ll just ask whether you’ve seen this Drake-meme yet. It’s an accurate demonstration of common shopper behavior and thinking.

Thanks to our latest improvement for Shopify stores, you can increase your average cart value by showing your users how much more they need to spend to qualify for free shipping (or a free gift.)

Use it on a sticky bar by copy-pasting the Dynamic Text Replacement (DTR) shortcode [[cartValueCountdown:100]] into a text element. Add the limit amount after the colon. (Important note: the currency is not auto-detected. Please remember to type it after the shortcode.)

As soon as your user adds something to their cart, the free shipping bar will automatically show how much more they need to spend to reach the free shipping threshold. Once they hit the threshold you specify, the campaign switches to the next page.

A completed dynamic free shipping bar

Let’s take a look at an example:

  1. The user adds a product to the cart for $59 and they need to reach $100 to take advantage of free shipping.
  2. The sticky bar will then show: “Add 41 USD more to your cart to get free shipping”
  3. When the user reaches 100 USD the next page will be shown: “Free shipping unlocked!”

When setting up this Free Shipping Bar, make sure the minimum cart value is above zero and below your free shipping threshold. That way, your campaign will only be displayed to visitors who already have added something to their cart.

Please note that this feature works for Shopify stores only.

🛍 Personalize your popups with a dynamic product or category name

Our Dynamic Text Replacement (DTR) makes popup personalization easy. It’s extremely useful if you’d like to use one specific campaign to deliver personalized promotions to segmented visitors on specific products or category pages.

For example, if a user browses your earring category page, you can set up an exit-intent popup to promote a 20% discount on earrings. And when a user visits your bracelet category page, the same campaign will promote a 20% discount on bracelets.

How to set it up?

Simply add a text element and insert one of the following short-codes:

  • To use the product name add: [[shop:product_name]]
  • To use the category name: [[shop:category_name]]

And how about customizing the targeting?

In the campaign settings, use the “Select who should see the popup” menu and select “Category pages” or “Product Pages.” If you want to narrow it down even further, you can set up the “URL contains” condition as well.

On the other hand, did you know you can use Dynamic Text Replacement for other purposes as well

You can:

  • Target visitors based on their location, gender, age, etc. by using dynamically altered text
  • For ecommerce sites, you can change your incentive (i.e. the percentage of a discount) depending on the product or category page where the visitor is browsing
  • Create a personalized Thank You page after your visitors convert or signup in the first popup

Here are a few examples:

Firstname – [[attribute:firstname|Visitor]]

Location – [[attribute:_country_de]]

🎡 Lucky Wheel Popup - personalized Thank You pages

If you actively use our Lucky Wheel Popup templates, you’ll love this improvement. 😀

Lucky wheels have 12 slices, but only one Thank You page. And we understand that you may not have enough space to explain to your visitors how to redeem their prizes. Or how to deal with losing outcomes.

With our new updates, now you have the chance to create a unique Thank You page for each slice.

This way you can handle not just the losing situations with relevant and different messages, but all of the winning options as well.

Advanced tipyou can also personalize the Thank You page by adding your visitor’s name that you also used on the first page.

✉ Email validation

Have you ever thought that it would be good if:

  • Your visitors were able to take advantage of your discount only once
  • They could download an ebook once
  • You can set up a rule and allow (or block) who can use a coupon

If so, we have good news 🎁

With Email validation, you can make sure your visitors receive only one discount code.

Now you can use our new Email validation update for any Campaigns with an Input Element for emails.

With our improvements, you can even control what data is accepted or rejected. It’s all conveniently communicated to your visitor.

Let’s say that a visitor tries to subscribe with a blacklisted email address, domain, or country code. You can see in the picture below, that they will see an error message conveying that they’re not eligible for the Campaign when they try to subscribe:

You can also enable “Block existing subscribers,” which automatically blocks visitors who have already subscribed to any of your Campaigns (whom can be found on your Leads list).

They will see a message that says: “You are already subscribed with your email address.”:

Since we’re so excited about these new changes, here are some additional advanced tips:

  • You can use our shiny new “Allow list” option with a specific email address like *@optimonk.com. This way you can run a “partner only” campaign where only visitors with the given email addresses are eligible to fill out the popup.
  • You can also target domain country codes with the * character, such as *.com, *.uk, *.us, *.hu, for example

Find out more about how to set it up here.

Over the last couple of months, we’ve been working hard to make your popup editing experience simpler and faster. We hope you’ll love these changes!

In case you’re keeping an eye on our product updates, you might have seen that we recently released a fresh, new and improved editor. Here is our biggest change:

  • only our revamped editor is available.

Here’s a sneak peek if you’d like to learn about these changes:

  • General settings (left column): The menu on the left is for the general settings of the popup (like configurations for the position, transition, color palette, and website overlay, etc.). This is where you can add new layers and elements. This also gives a nice overview of how the popup is structured.
  • Custom settings (right column): There’s a new menu on the right-hand side for customizing your layers and elements.
  • PreviewThe new preview menu at the bottom of your screen makes it easier to navigate between pages. Here, you can also add additional pages if you’d like to create more complex popups.
  • New layers tab: The tab on the left shows a different view of your popup. We made it lighter and added new backgrounds and content. Now you can instantly recognize elements, and see which one has the background color or image you want to change.
  • New dropzone: A dropzone is a function that allows you to see the exact location of where you can drop your element. This is an updated version that improved the previous display, which showed a rectangular shape that only gave an approximate location. Now, the improved feature makes the drag and drop editor much more usable. This will speed up your in-house processes!

Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day are the two events that dominate the retail calendar in February and both can help increase your revenue. Every online merchant should take advantage of these occasions by offering discounts and running promotions

Use these popup templates to:

  • Promote your Super Bowl or Valentine’s Day sale
  • Build your list (email, SMS, Messenger)
  • Recommend Super Bowl or Valentine’s Day specific products to your visitors
  • Prevent cart abandonment by offering discount coupons
  • Remind them to use coupon codes
